About

Houston, like a regular

Every good spot has a chalkboard: the taco truck, the icehouse, the coffee bar, the brunch place. Every city has people who know what's written on all of them. Regulars Guide puts those boards and those people in one place. Houston first, more cities soon.

Why local guides

Specials change every week. Places close, reopen, switch owners, and quietly drop the happy hour. Big review sites can't keep up, and it's hard to tell who actually went. The people who actually know are the regulars: the ones who were there Tuesday and saw the board.

  • Guides keep the board honest. They add the spots, post the specials, and confirm what's still running.
  • Guides are local on purpose. You can only add places near where you live or where you've actually checked in, so the map is built by people who go there, not by someone working through a spreadsheet.
  • Reviews and ratings can't be bought. Every review is from someone who went, and venues can't pay to change a score or hide one.

Your passport

Every account gets a Houston passport. It turns going out into something you can keep score of.

  • Check in when you're at a spot to collect a stamp. Your phone's location has to put you there: anyone can tap a button, so only on-location check-ins earn stamps, points and badges. Off-location check-ins and Been here marks still build your own list. If a special or a show is on when you check in, that counts too.
  • Level up by earning points for everything you do: 20 for a new spot, 10 for each on-location check-in, 25 for a review (more with details and photos), 50 for each badge, and a little for posts and lists. Fifteen levels, from Newcomer to City Treasure at 100,000 points: Explorer, Local, Regular, Neighbor, Barfly, Insider, Tastemaker, Scene Setter, Connoisseur, Legend, Icon, Hall of Famer, Living Legend, City Treasure.
  • Earn badges for the kinds of places you go (Brewery Run, Icehouse Hopper, Deep Diver, Coffee Crawl), for covering the city (Neighborhood Hopper, All Over Town), for being a regular, for catching happy hours and live shows, and for going out on holidays like Halloween, St. Paddy's and New Year's Eve. Limited-time badges show up for events like rodeo season.
  • Travel badges count stamps in other cities. Each city has its own level, so a Houston Legend starts fresh somewhere new.
  • Your bucket list lives in your passport: tap Want to go on places you mean to try, and they check themselves off when you go.

Reviews

  • One review per spot. Reviews are your take on a place, so you get one and edit it as things change. Guides get one post per spot for the same reason.
  • A venue and an act are reviewed separately. Catching a great band at a so-so bar? Review the band, the bar, or both. Food trucks and pop-ups get their own scores too.
  • Show it: add up to 6 photos, or guides can add one video up to 60 seconds instead.
  • Details, not just stars: atmosphere, service, drinks and specials, food and value for venues, plus whether locals actually go there. Rate any details and your overall is their average, down to the tenth of a star. No food at a bar? Its food score never counts.
  • The quick questions: patio, kid friendly, dog friendly, live music, parking and more. Venue pages show what most reviewers said, and Spot Finder uses it.

Privacy

  • What we keep: your account details (name, email, and your Google profile photo if you sign in with Google), what you post, like, follow and save, and your check-ins.
  • Home zip, never an address. It's optional, it's only used to draw your guide area, and nobody else sees it.
  • Location only when you check in. We look at it the moment you tap Check in to see if you're at the venue, and keep the yes or no, not where you were.
  • Photos: we strip location and camera data (EXIF) from every photo before storing it.
  • Analytics are basic and cookie-free (pages viewed), not tied to you.
  • We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share your email with venues.
  • Instagram: for venues and acts with a public Instagram business account, we show their profile picture, bio and recent post photos, each linked to the original post. We never see personal accounts or anyone's login. How to have Instagram or Facebook data removed.
  • Your choices: edit or delete your posts any time, and turn booking emails off from your Bookings page. To delete your account, email [email protected] from your account address.

Terms of use

By using Regulars Guide you agree to these terms.

  • Who can use it: you must be 21 or older. One person per account. Keep your sign-in secure; guides and venue managers must use two-factor authentication.
  • What you post: your own photos and honest experiences. No fake reviews, and no reviewing your own venue or a competitor. No harassment, hate, nudity, or content that promotes over-consumption or drunk driving.
  • Paid or comped? If someone paid you or gave you something for a post, say so in the post.
  • You own what you post. You let us display it on Regulars Guide and in our apps and promotion.
  • Specials are posted by venues and the community and can change without notice. Confirm with the venue; we're not responsible for a special that ended.
  • Venues and acts: claiming a page means you're authorized to speak for the business. Replies must be respectful, and we may remove access for misuse.
  • Moderation: we may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Report anything that looks wrong from the post menu.
